The resin is produced in Indonesia
(mainly on the island Celebes) and on the Philippines. The
merchandise derives from the plant Agatis Alba / Agatis Damara. The
trees are scratched and the oozing resin is collected. From the
Philippines the goods are shipped from Manila, from Indonesia mostly
from Ujung Pandang, sometimes also in transhipment via Jakarta or
Singapore.

It is an
aromatic, well-smelling resin. The good qualities are
yellowish-whitish clean, the darker ones have dark segregation up
to darker pieces, and are partly contaminated by pieces of the
bark. |
| Damar
Brown |
The brown Damar is produced in
Indonesia (mainly on the island Borneo) and in smaller quantities in
India. The merchandise is harvested in larger pieces often from
already decayed trees, mostly at the mouth of a river. Generally it
is roughly scraped and gets into the market as Gum Damar brown Batu
halfscraped.

White |
The
white Damar is produced in Indonesia and in smaller quantities
in India. The mer-chandise is derived from the plant Shorea
Wiesneri Staff from the family Dipterocar-paceae. Whitish to
yellowish pieces. It reaches Europe by tranship-ment via
Singapore or Jakarta. |
Whitish
to yellowish, nearly transparent pieces. The merchandise is
sized from big pieces to dust. It sticks by keeping it in hands
and has a low melting point (softening at 75 °C, at 100 °C
thickened, at 150 °C fluid and clear). Slightly balsamic odour. |
